Fall Planters

How to Care for Your Fall Planter

Your fall planter is ready to welcome the season! With just a little TLC, you can keep it looking beautiful well into fall.

 Give It a Drink

The most important thing is keeping your planter watered.

Stick your finger into the soil about an inch. If it feels dry, it’s time to water. Give it a good, thorough drink until water runs out the bottom.

As the weather gets cooler, your planter won’t need to be watered as often as it did during the summer. But don’t forget about it—especially on those surprisingly warm September days!

Find a Happy Spot

Most of our fall favorites, like mums, pansies, cabbage and kale, enjoy plenty of light. A sunny or partly sunny spot is usually perfect.

A Little Cleanup Goes a Long Way

As flowers fade, simply pinch or snip them off. Remove any yellow or tired-looking leaves, too.

This little bit of grooming keeps your planter looking fresh and encourages many plants to keep blooming.

Keep an Eye on the Weather

Fall in New England can be a little unpredictable—we can have a beautiful 70° day followed by a very chilly night!

Most fall plants enjoy the cooler temperatures, but a hard frost can damage some flowers. If freezing temperatures are expected, move your planter into a protected spot if you can.

And Most of All… Enjoy It!

Fall planters are meant to be enjoyed! Mums, pansies, colorful foliage, grasses, branches, berries, pumpkins and other seasonal touches all come together to create that cozy fall feeling.

Give it some water, give it a little love, and let it do its thing.
